About Coaching

Professional Coaching is a transformative personal relationship that helps individuals produce powerful changes in all aspects of their lives. Coaching helps people to achieve their unique set of goals and be their best.

"During two recent stressful times in my life, my husband's military deployment and our family's international move, Lisa's coaching and insight helped me focus on the positive aspects of my life.  Her expertise also imparted ways to maintain a healthy lifestyle and deal with fears through journaling.  With Lisa's continuing support, I have been able to sustain a healthy attitude and spirit.  I know that others, no matter what their situation, can benefit from Lisa's methods to enhance their quality of life and better deal with challenging situations."  Raquel Hecker, American Diplomat, Ottawa Canada

Coaching attracts clients who are eager to grow and have greater success in planning, setting goals, and creating an even better life than they currently have.

How coaching works

  • Professionally trained coaches listen, observe, and customize their approach to each individual client’s needs. They seek to elicit solutions and strategies from the client by asking insightful questions that help shift the client’s actions and ways of thinking.

  • The coaching relationship provides a confidential and safe environment for clients to expand their awareness and explore new choices and possibilities. This effective interaction helps clients move forward to achieve what is most important to them.

  • Coaching provides ongoing support, positive feedback, and built-in structure and accountability to enhance the skills, resources, gifts, and creativity that the client already has.

  • During each meeting, the agenda and focus of the conversation is chosen by the client. The coach attentively listens and contributes observations, comments, and questions to create clarity and encourage the client to move forward in their desired actions.

Where does coaching take place?

Individual coaching sessions primarily occur over the telephone, making service convenient, efficient, and accessible. However, some clients in the nearby Washington, DC area choose to meet in person, when scheduling and distance permit. Group coaching sessions are usually conducted in person.

How is coaching different from therapy?

Although coaching and therapy have many similarities, coaching tends to be more present- and future-oriented than therapy. While references to the past may occasionally occur, coaching mainly concentrates on your present life and guiding you to create your desired future. The coaching relationship is more of an equal partnership, with client and coach together co-creating a plan of focus and a course of action.
